WurliTzer Opus 1100, a 2/6 style DX, was shipped from North Tonawanda in 1925 to the Parkway Theatre in the Roseland area of Chicago. The Parkway WurliTzer was moved to a private residence in the Morgan Park area and later purchased by Robert and Charlotte Erickson and it was installed in their Midlothian home. When the Erickson's moved to Frankfort, the organ was installed in that home. It is presently located in Lindenhurst, its' 5th home since leaving the WurliTzer factory. Click on Construction Zone to view the organ under construction. |

The Parkway was a small neighborhood theatre and is seen on the right of this photo looking North from 111th and Michigan. In the background on the opposite side of the street is the larger Roseland State Theatre which had a 3/12 Moller theatre pipe organ. The small style D six ranker in the Parkway was well suited to a smaller theatre and WurliTzer installed hundreds of them during the silent movie era. |

ILLINOIS RAILWAY MUSEUM One of the largest railroad museums in the US is located at Union, Illinois and features all facets of rail equipment, including operating steam locomotives, full streamliner Zephry, Electric Interurban Railway equipment, including my favorites from the NORTH SHORE LINE, and streetcar equipment from Chicago and other cities. As a volunteer at the museum I operate electric railway equipment on the demonstration railroad.
Remembering Bill Charles -Chicago Area Organist.. My dad was an organist who performed in the Chicago area. Although he studied pipe organ due to the changing times he performed professionally on the Hammond. His dream was to be a theatre organist but the advent of the "talkies" and the depression years ended that dream.
PIPECHAT email chat list. A friendly place to exchange information on organ related topics.
